Contaminated and Extreme Diving Conditions

Contaminated Diving Services

Mainstream Commercial Divers, Inc. (MCDI) has been providing professional commercial diving services in contaminated environments since formation. We routinely perform work at EPA Superfund sites, paper mills, meat processing facilities, sewage plants, and chemical plants where the environmental conditions can include hazardous temperatures, biologically contaminated environments, as well as a wide variety of chemically contaminated environments. We also have extensive experiene performing non-floating oil detection and cleanup as well as performing diving operations involving the salvage of sunken barges carrying hazardous materials.

Our contaminated diving service equipment includes:

  • Fully encapsulated diving suit for 100% protection of the diver from the environment
  • Chiller suits allowing divers to withstand temperatures of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Heavy-duty work boats set up for commercial diving
  • Salvage equipment (barge salvage hatches and temporary repair materials)
  • 3", 4", 6", and 8" trash pumps and hydraulic submersible pumps
  • Water induction dredges up to 6" diameter
  • An extensive inventory of suction and discharge hoses
  • Inventory of oil-absorbing pads and disposable boom
  • 5,000' of floating boom and oil skimmers

Hot Water Diving

MCDI is fully equipped to perform operations where the environmental conditions include extremely hot, contaminated water. Our extensive work in contaminated environments has led us to construct specialized equipment, which allows us to dive in harsh, chemically treated environments with temperatures of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Cold Water Diving

Cold Water Diving

MCDI has experience diving in extremely cold environments, including deep diving operations through several feet of ice during the winter months in North and South Dakota.

MCDI has designed and built in-house pre-fabricated dive shacks and decompression chamber enclosures that can be assembled on barges or on the ice and are thermostat controlled to maintain a constant temperature night and day.
