Power Plant/Nuclear Diving Services

Mainstream Commercial Divers, Inc. provides routine maintenance, inspection, and repairs for coal-fired, natural gas, hydroelectric, and nuclear power companies.

Nuclear Power Plant Services

Our Charleston, South Carolina office has been providing safe diving services to the commercial nuclear power generation industry since the early 1980’s. Our routine non-Radiological Control Area (RCA) work has included intake bay inspections, removal of shell and sediment from the cooling system, intake and discharge stop log and valve repairs, and traveling water screen replacement. RCA work at many nuclear plants has included spent fuel rack removal and replacements, routine pre-outage fuel transfer system preventive maintenance as well as emergency repairs during fuel handling.

We maintain an extensive inventory of nuclear specific diving equipment. Company procedures have been developed specific to the dressing out and decontamination of the diver to keep “As Low As Reasonably Achievable” (ALARA).

Preventive maintenance services to the fuel transfer system have included:

  • Wheel and bushing inspections and replacement
  • Bridge crane mast and grapple inspection and replacement
  • Fuel transfer tube isolation valve replacement
